Blog of the Week: Dear Aldrich

Dear Aldrich,

And thus began Brandi Lind’s journey to Sioux Falls.

As an adopted daughter of Minneapolis, Lind was not ready for the move to South Dakota. She had become so attached to her home in Minneapolis that she was bequeathed Brandi of Aldrich Avenue, so it was only appropriate when she arrived to Sioux Falls in May that she keep in touch with her beloved street, Aldrich. Dear Aldrich is Brandi’s journal of living in South Dakota, written as letters to her former residence. As a former art student, it also doubles as a showcase for local, edgy art, including her own.

The blog “is only a baby” according to Lind and was started on a whim when she realized that “everybody had a blog and I thought I should too.” Unlike her “competitors” who used their blogs to highlight interesting stuff found on the web, Lind soon developed the blog as a forum for trying original things. As she notes, “the blog was a means of exploring and finding new things when I first came to Sioux Falls.” By using the blog as inspiration to seek out the hidden corners of Sioux Falls and Eastern South Dakota, she did her best at settling in to her new home and documented the journey online. However, Aldrich is never far from her mind, and luckily for Aldrich Avenue and local readers, we can see what South Dakota looks like through the eyes of a new resident.

Welcome to South Dakota, Brandi. Keep exploring.
